Home Network Examples

This is the most basic home network set up. You have a wireless router connected to a modem provided by the ISP (Internet Service Provider). All devices on the network connect to the router wirelessly. Moving the router to a central location in your home can provide a better network connection

Similar to the basic set up you can connect up to four network devices using a network cable (UTP) to the wireless router (most routers provide 4 ports). Wired connections provide a fast and stable connection.

You can connect an access point to your wireless router to expand your wireless network. This gives you the ability to cover areas in your home where the Wi-Fi signal from the router is weak. This set up will expand your overall wireless coverage in your home.

If you have more than 4 network devices to wire a switch can be a good option. In addition to wiring many devices you can utilize access points throughout your home instead of a router. The advantage of access points is that you can place them in key locations throughout your home.

Wi-Fi mesh networks are a fast-growing option for home use. In contrast to access points that create multiple wireless networks the mesh networks compromise of 2 or more nodes that work together to offer a single network (SSID) so devices can hop seamlessly across the network.
